In 1918, some boys playing baseball knocked one onto the MCRR tracks in the outfield. The ball was caught by a Pullman porter and he waved to the boys as the train sped away. It was their only baseball and they were mad, eventually writing a letter asking for it back, but they bought a new one and forgot about it. Two weeks later the same porter waved again. But this time he threw the baseball. It was autographed by the Red Sox (including Babe Ruth) and throughout that summer, he tossed a ball whenever he came through.
