Originally called Golden Leaf Lager in the 1890s by Gottleb Hielman, Old Style first appeared in local stores in Wisconsin in 1902. After prohibition, G. Heilman’s brew master was asked by the workforce to brew an especially “strong” beer for a company picnic. They loved it so much, management decided to sell it to the public. Taking advantage of nation-wide bottlers strike and product rationing by a competitor, Old Style came into Illinois. It wasn’t long before it became Chicago’s beer and eventually Chicago’s local Baseball team!
